Gorubathan is a small town in the Kalimpong district of North Bengal. It is situated on the east bank of the river Neora and Chel both the river valleys are popular picnic spots. The unique location of this place is a famous tourist spot of the Dooars region. This place is known for its serene beauty and tranquil atmosphere. The beautiful landscapes of the Neora river, hilly alpines, and the tea gardens make it an attractive place for the tourists of the dooars region. The half plain and half hill landscape area of Gorubathan makes it a unique tourist spot. This place is also known as Somber among the local people because of the weekly village market organized here..


Gorubathan is mainly famous for the scenic beauty of nature but 44km apart from this place in the Neora Valley National Park you can spot many kinds of wild animals. It is the place of Red Panda. You can spot many species here like Himalayan Tahr, Black bear, Sambar, barking deer, tiger, leopard, Chinese marmorata pangolin, Malayalam giant squirrel, wild boar, wild dog, clouded leopard. Many kinds of birds are also spotted here like whistling thrush, golden-headed black finch, pheasants, cuckoos, minivets, flycatchers, sunbirds, and many more.

The landscape area of Gorubathan where the hills meet the plains and the riverbed of Chel makes it a favorable place for nature lovers. The drive from Damdim to Gorubathan is filled with the picturesque beauty of nature. You can spot the Fagu Khola , Runjung khola, chel khola meet with the river Chel and on the other side of the river, there is the Pathjhora Tea Garden. The serene beauty of this place is a visual treat to our eyes.

You can also visit the Dalim fort. It is situated on the top of the hills just above the Gorubathan village. You can spot the serene beauty of nature and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere from here. Jhandidora is also a popular destination. This place offers a view of the Himalayan snow-capped mountain range. Sukham forest is 8m away from Gorubathan village. The drive from here to Sukham forest is filled with the picturesque beauty of nature. This place also offers the scenic beauty of nature and a tranquil atmosphere.


This is 19th-century heritage planters tea garden in Gorubathan area which is fringed by Batabari Forest at its Southern end. This tea resort offers a wonderful balance in terms of stay in a colonial bungalow amidst sprawling tea gardens. All travelers will no doubt get the mesmerizing tea fragrance and would like to sip a cup of tea with a stay in the resort.

One can learn about the tea manufacturing process through a guided tour in the tea processing unit, that will end with a fresh cup of world famous Darjeeling.

Gorubathan is situated on the east bank of the Neora and Chel River, both the rivers valley are considered as perfect picnic spot. It is also famous for its beautiful landscape of the Neora River, hilly alpine forests and Tea garden. On the other side of the river is the picturesque Pathorjhora tea garden. Whether to enjoy the fresh water of river or the roam around the green lush surrounding, the place is a gem for picnickers and nature lovers.

March to October is the best time to visit Gorubathan. The weather of the village is quite soothing and here every season has its charm. However, monsoon is not the time to visit due to frequent landscapes.
