Mendabari Jungle Camp is a forest bungalow near Chilapata forest. It is located about 20 km from Alipurduar, and just a few minutes away from Hasimara town. Staying at the camp gives you a brief idea of the wildlife spotted, like the famous Asiatic one Horned Rhino and Indian Elephant, amidst the dense forest. It serves as a natural corridor between Jaldapara National Park and Buxa Tiger Reserve and is an added attraction.

Chilapata forest is home to 23 species of herbivores and carnivores, 22 species of reptiles, and 180 species of birds. This forest is full of enchanting beauty.

Mendabari fort is the remains seen during the jungle safari. The ruins is of an ancient Nal Rajar Garh from 5th century AD and is a fine architectural specimen and historically valuable.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to make the most out of a trip here is the post-monsoon season. The forest remains closed during the monsoon season from mid-July to mid-September.

MYTH ABOUT NALGARH

Nalgarh Fort Chilapata

According to the fables, the trees surrounding the Mendabari fort (Nal Rajar Garh or Nalgarh) are the royal soldiers guarding the fort and the blood of those soldiers flows when you cut the trees. The rich tribal lifestyle and food are worthy to be tasted and is a must visit.

WILDLIFE IN MENDABARI

Chilapata is surrounded by dense forest, with different animals in it. Mendabari Jungle Camp is an added charm to it. In the forest, you can see elephants and one-horned rhinos during a safari. Tourists will also definitely come across bison and innumerable bird species along with the rare species of frogs and butterflies.
