Rajabhatkhawa is a small village located in Kalchini CD block in the Alipurduar subdivision of Alipurduar district, surrounded by greenwood and wildlife. The name ”Rajabhatkhawa” interprets “where (the place) emperor had a meal”. This region is named after the kings of Coochbehar, who used to come here for picnics. All the permits for entering Buxa Tiger Reserve can be obtained from here.
It is famous for the museum “Rajabhatkhawa Nature Interpretation Centre”. The museum has almost all kinds of wildlife taxidermy which can be of great benefit to researchers. Most of the inhabitants are old tribal. Their momos are a special attraction to the townspeople. There is a river named Dima a little far from here. Everyone comes here to take a break from their busy life and enjoys the alluring glance of mountains. So take an interval from your concrete world and come here to enjoy the luxury of a natural environment.
BIRDING AT RAJABHATKHAWA:
North Bengal has almost 280 species of bird. This place is famous for bird watching. Hornbill, Racket Tailed, Drongo,Asian Pied, Hill Myna, Black Hooded Oriole are the most-watched birds in Rajabhatkhawa. Jungle Babbler, Golden Eagle, Little Egret, Oriental Magpie, White-Tailed Robin, Grey Koyel, Button Koyel, Indian Peafowl, Indian Roller, White Throated Kingfisher, Blue Throated Barbet,Shrike, Indian pond Heron, Red-Breasted Parakeet, Great Barbet are also there. So if you are a bird lover this place would be heaven for you.
THINGS TO DO
- NATURE INTERPRETATION CENTER: Wild injured animals are rescued here. After treatment, the animals are released back into the wild. In this center, you can find taxidermy of wild and rare animals. This would be a great place for visitors and researchers.
- BUXA FOREST: Forest safari is another attraction to the visitors. This place is famous for Bison. It is a very sensitive, nervous, and furious animal. If you’re lucky you may encounter leopard and tiger. Besides this, you can often see elephants, wild cats, etc.
- DIMA BRIDGE This place is the best to loaf around with friends and family. Here you can chill on the river bank and enjoy a pleasant breeze by watching the aloof mountains.
- BUXA TIGER RESERVE ENTRY GATE: The gate to enter Buxa tiger reserve is here. One has to buy tickets from the nature interpretation center before entering the reserve.

Cars are available from Alipurduar, Coochbehar and Hasimara to reach Rajabhatkhawa. They will charge you around Rs. 600-800 depending on the number of people coming.
Alipurduar to Rajabhatkhawa: 7 AM and 2 PM.
Rajabhatkhawa to Alipurduar: 10 AM and 5 PM.

It does not take any entry fee to come to Rajabhatkhawa but It is the entry gate of Buxa tiger reserve and in order to enter Buxa tiger reserve, You have to take permission here.
